At The Barista, we believe great coffee and sustainability go hand in hand. As an ESSA-accredited sustainable events supplier, we’re always looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact and help our clients do the same.
That’s why we’ve partnered with Ecologi, a certified B-Corp, to launch our carbon offsetting scheme for events. You can offset your event’s carbon emissions while supporting tree-planting projects in coffee-growing regions around the world.
Take a look at our Ecologi profile to see the difference we’re making in real time.
Understanding carbon removal through tree-planting

Let’s talk about how our carbon offsetting works. There are two main approaches to tackling climate change: carbon avoidance (preventing future emissions) and carbon removal (decreasing the CO2 that’s already in the atmosphere).
We’ve chosen to focus on carbon removal through afforestation and reforestation – planting trees on degraded or deforested land that actively absorb carbon dioxide as they grow.
We support these projects in coffee-producing nations like Brazil and Kenya. This means your offset tackles carbon, restores forests, supports local biodiversity, improves soil health for farmers and creates employment in the regions where coffee is grown.
It’s a way to give back to the communities and environments that make what we do possible.
Why add carbon offsetting to your event?
We know many of our clients want to make their events more sustainable, and we want to make that straightforward.
Carbon offsetting is a practical way to reduce your event’s environmental impact. Through our partnership with Ecologi, you can see exactly how your offsetting is supporting tree-planting projects in coffee-growing communities, creating real benefits for both the environment and local people.
Plus, by choosing to offset, you’re helping push the events industry in a more sustainable direction. Every event that takes action makes it easier for the next one to do the same.
How we calculate your event’s impact

We’ve made our carbon offsetting process clear and straightforward. When planning your event, we look at:
- How far we’ll travel to reach your venue
- How long your event will run
- How many drinks we expect to serve
This helps us accurately work out the estimated carbon emissions from your specific event, so we know exactly what to offset. We then buy carbon credits through Ecologi, equal to the amount of carbon emitted.
Your event, your choice

We understand every client and event is different, so we’ve created three simple options:
Full event offsetting
Cover everything we do at your event – our journey to and from your venue, all the cups and ingredients we use, the energy we use while serving and any equipment we bring along. This is the full package: a completely carbon-neutral coffee service that you can be proud to shout about.
Travel-only offsetting
Get involved by offsetting our journey to and from your event. Do your bit for the main carbon impact and share with your guests that you’ve actively contributed to making your event more sustainable.
Opt out
If offsetting isn’t right for you right now, that’s okay. We’ll cover our travel emissions ourselves as part of our commitment to sustainability, so your event still benefits from choosing a carbon-conscious coffee service.
How it works: simple steps, positive change

We believe in keeping things transparent and straightforward. Here’s how it works:
- Chat with your Account Manager about which offsetting option works best for your event
- We’ll calculate your emissions based on distance travelled, event duration and drinks served
- We purchase carbon credits through Ecologi to match that amount
- The cost is passed directly to you – we don’t add any markup or take a cut
Supporting communities in coffee-growing regions

Through Ecologi, we’re supporting projects that restore degraded forest land in major coffee-producing regions. The focus is on creating healthier ecosystems for the communities that depend on them.
What your offsetting achieves:
- Carbon removal: Trees actively absorb carbon from the atmosphere and store it as they grow
- Forest restoration: Bringing degraded and deforested land back to life and creating habitats for native wildlife
- Soil health: Healthier forests mean better soil quality, supporting sustainable farming
- Local employment: Creating jobs in tree planting, management and conservation
- Biodiversity: Restoring ecosystems that support native plants and animals
These projects are certified to Gold Standard by The Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), so your contribution makes a real, measurable difference.
Part of our bigger green journey

Our carbon offsetting scheme is part of our broader sustainability work, which includes:
- Using recyclable cups and packaging
- Working with local suppliers to reduce transport emissions
- Donating surplus stock to local food banks and community organisations to minimise waste
- Supporting our local community through various projects
As an ESSA Tier 5 accredited sustainable events supplier – the highest tier – we’re committed to continuously improving our environmental practices.
