Brewing a greener future: introducing our carbon offsetting scheme

At The Barista, we believe that great coffee should not only taste good but do good too. As an ESSA-accredited sustainable events supplier, we’re always looking for practical ways to make our service more environmentally friendly. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce our latest initiative: a carbon offsetting scheme that helps you make your events greener, one cup at a time.

Through our partnership with Ecologi, a certified B-Corp, we’re making it simple to offset the carbon emissions from your events while supporting community projects worldwide. Take a look at our Ecologi profile to see the difference we’re making in real time.

Making sense of carbon avoidance

Let’s talk about how carbon offsetting works. Carbon avoidance focuses on helping reduce future sources of carbon emissions, while carbon removal decreases the amount of carbon already in the atmosphere. While both approaches have a place in tackling climate change, we’ve chosen to focus on carbon avoidance because it creates immediate positive change in communities worldwide.

For example, when communities gain access to cleaner water, they don’t need to burn fuel to boil water for drinking. This practical change not only prevents carbon emissions but also improves daily life for local people. Carbon avoidance has double the impact – reducing future emissions while supporting community development.

Why add carbon offsetting to your event?

We know that many of our clients are looking for ways to make their events more sustainable, and we want to make it as easy as possible for you to take positive action. Here’s why carbon offsetting could be perfect for your next event:

  • It’s a practical way to reduce your event’s environmental impact while supporting communities worldwide
  • Through our Ecologi partnership, you’ll be able to see how your contribution makes a difference
  • You’re helping us lead the way in making events more sustainable
  • Your offsetting directly supports projects that improve lives while reducing emissions

How we calculate your event’s impact

We’ve made our carbon offsetting process clear and straightforward. When planning your event, we look at:

  • How far we’ll travel to reach your venue
  • How long your event will run
  • How many drinks we expect to serve

This helps us accurately work out the estimated carbon emissions from your specific event, so we know exactly what to offset. We then buy carbon credits through Ecologi, equal to the amount of carbon emitted.

Your event, your choice

We understand every event is different, so we’ve created three simple options:

Full event offsetting:

Cover offsetting for everything we do at your event:

    • Our journey to and from your venue
    • All the cups and ingredients we use
    • The energy we use while serving
    • Any other equipment we bring along

    Travel-only offsetting:

Just offsetting our journey to and from your event

Opt out – the choice is yours:

Don’t worry if offsetting isn’t right for you right now – we’ll still offset the travel emissions as part of our commitment to sustainability and maintain our other sustainable practices across everything we do

How it works: simple steps, positive change

We believe in keeping things transparent and straightforward:

        • Chat with your Account Manager about which offsetting option works best for you
        • We’ll calculate your event’s emissions based on our criteria
        • We purchase carbon credits through our trusted partner Ecologi
        • The cost is passed directly to you – we don’t add any markup or take a cut
        • The projects are certified to Gold Standard by The Verified Carbon Standard (VCS)

          Supporting communities worldwide

We’ve partnered with Ecologi to support community-based carbon avoidance projects that create lasting positive change. These initiatives directly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals while also reducing carbon emissions. Here are just a few examples of what your offsetting supports:

          • Clean water access: Improving access to clean water, removing the need for communities to burn fuel for water purifying
          • Efficient cookstoves: Providing communities with fuel-efficient stoves that reduce emissions and improve air quality
          • Sustainable energy: Supporting communities in their transition to cleaner energy

These community-based carbon avoidance projects not only reduce future emissions but also improve people’s lives, making your contribution twice as impactful.

Part of our bigger green journey

Our carbon offsetting scheme joins our other sustainability initiatives, including:

          • Using recyclable cups and packaging
          • Working with local suppliers to reduce transport emissions
          • Donating surplus stock to local food banks and community organisations to minimise waste
          • Supporting our local community through various projects

As an ESSA Tier 4 accredited sustainable events supplier, we’re committed to always improving our environmental practices.

Ready to make your event greener?

Making your event more sustainable doesn’t have to be complicated. We’re here to guide you through the process and help you understand the difference you’re making. Your Account Manager will work with you to find the best offsetting option for your event.
