Meet our Event Coordinator: Millie

In our ongoing ‘Meet the Barista’ series, we’ve been delving into the lives and passions of some of the incredible team members who help make our team so special. So far, we’ve introduced Luigi and Hannah, two of our talented event baristas, and today we’re taking a step behind the scenes to shine the spotlight on our new Event Coordinator, Millie.

Working with customers every day to help organise unforgettable events is no mean feat. It takes a special kind of person to blend the creativity, attention to detail and client understanding needed to deliver. We chatted to Millie to find out a little more about how everything comes together.

Read on to find out more about Millie’s role, background, and what goes on behind the scenes at The Barista!

Hi Millie. Can you tell us a little about your background? What initially drew you to event coordination and made you excited to pursue it as a career?

Since leaving university, I have worked in mental health services and the civil service, so this role has been a big change for me. I wanted to work in events because I wanted to challenge myself and try something new. I was drawn to The Barista because of the team spirit and close-knit feel of the company.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

I arrive in the morning, get a brew and some brekky, and then get organising everything for our upcoming events! I do all of the branding and make sure our clients are all ready for their coffee, juice or smoothie bar with us.

Are there any specific skills or areas of expertise that you’re looking forward to developing?

I am looking forward to developing my knowledge of events and my ability to give our clients the best event possible. The busier we get, the harder we all work and the more rewarding it is at the end. So, I look forward to growing in confidence and taking on more events in the future as a team!

What inspires you the most about working with clients and helping them create memorable events?

When clients give feedback to the team and say that they are happy with the event, that’s what’s most rewarding. It’s great knowing that we provided the best service possible and that our clients have understood how invaluable our service is.

Part of your job involves working on branded goods for customers. Can you tell us a bit about the value of branded goods and the positive impact they can have on an event?

Branded goods are absolutely invaluable at events! They are an incredible marketing tool that really work to help solidify our client’s branding message. They also create a sense of legitimacy and sophistication at events. I often find clients want more branded goods once they have had them once at events and realise their success. Especially cups – who doesn’t want their brand associated with our great coffee?

What’s your favourite thing about working for The Barista?

I love the team the most! There’s nothing better than when everyone’s in the engine room together, working hard and having a good laugh – especially when we order in a Thai curry for a family-style lunch!

What would you say to a business considering hiring a mobile barista service for their event?

A barista adds much more value to an event than you would expect – they bring a level of personalisation and professionalism that can’t be done with a standard drinks service. We provide speciality coffee that’s been roasted in-house in Leeds by us – and by us, I mean Julie! It’s personal, and so are our baristas. They love to chat and bring people onto your stand; everyone remembers a good coffee and a chinwag!

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?

I have been horse riding since I was around 5 years old, and I can’t think of anything better than getting outside at the weekend in the sunshine. I also love to get out to gigs and music festivals – cheeky Glastonbury namedrop because it was the best weekend ever! But really, what I enjoy the most is spending time with my loved ones and eating good food (a lot).

What’s your favourite hot drink?

I have to be a traitor and say a good solid cup of Yorkshire tea (tea club is superior). If you’re not a coffee drinker, know that we have options and you’re not alone! Also, we carry the best teabags and anyone who says otherwise should be scolded (that’s for PG tips lovers out there – sorry!).

We hope you enjoyed learning a little more about life behind the scenes at The Barista. If you’re looking for a team of friendly professionals to help create an unforgettable atmosphere at your next event, please get in touch to find out how we can help you make a lasting impression.
