Serving coffee and teeing off at the annual ESSA golf day

Last week we had the pleasure of taking part in the annual In The Rough charity golf day, hosted by the Event Supplier and Services Association (ESSA) at the Belfry.

We’ve mentioned before that we’re proud ESSA members because it helps our clients know they will receive industry-leading service, and getting together with fellow members is something we look forward to each year.

The annual In The Rough golf day brings together organisers, venues and service providers from the events industry and provides an opportunity to learn about each other’s services and share best practice – all in the name of charity.

We kicked off the day serving coffee during registration and breakfast, giving the 29 competing teams a much needed caffeine boost before they headed off. And they were a thirsty bunch, as we served over 140 drinks in just an hour and a half!

Then our dream team – Matt, Sam, Phil and Jamie – hit the course.

Despite glorious weather and valiant efforts all round, The Barista team managed to come 23^rd out of 29! We did, however, manage some smaller wins along the way. Matt hit a 10 in the bow and arrow game to win a sambuca shot and we got the highest combined score for this challenge.

Over on our sponsored tee, James Rawlins from team Electra Dubai and Maestra Dubai won the longest drive, bagging himself a TomTom Golfer GPS watch. And the day’s overall winners were Creative Hire. Congrats to both!

Other highlights included Matt snapping his 3-iron club in half and almost reversing the buggy into a lake with Phil. But it wasn’t all bad news, as we got up bright and early to play again the following morning due to a raffle win from the previous year. Matt, Sam and Phil all got pars on hole 12 and Jamie managed a birdie.

Although we may not be the most accomplished golfers, we had a great two days and it’s always fantastic to catch up with other industry-leading event suppliers.

ESSA events provide a real opportunity to learn from our peers and forge lasting relationships that will ultimately benefit the service we offer our customers.
